About Edisto Beach and Island

Edisto Beach is one of the few remaining uncommercialized, family-oriented beaches left on the Atlantic Ocean. Here you will not only find an absence of hotels and high rises but Edisto prides itself in having a total of one grocery store, three gas stations and no stop lights.
Edisto is approximately 45 miles south of Charleston and east of Walterboro, coastal Highway U.S. 17 junctures with S.C. Highway 174. From there it is a leisurely 20 minute drive along Highway 174 to Edisto while passing through moss-covered oak archways, past old country churches, working farms and antebellum plantation estates. The Intra-Coastal Waterway at the McKinley Washington, Jr. Bridge marks the gateway to Edisto Island.

Edisto remains one of the FEW unspoiled beach areas on the East Coast. The lifestyle is fashioned in a Lowcountry profile and the area's appeal is its unstructured atmosphere. Neither permanent residents nor visitors require formality. It is a casual, relaxed, natural feeling that is experienced by all.

Edisto Beach is the perfect destination for families, couples, or individuals looking for a relaxing location to enjoy nature, the beach, and the island's activities. Despite the lack of commercialism found on Edisto, there is something for everyone four seasons out of the year.
The Springtime is a favorite time for many to be on the Beach. The Summer crowds have yet to appear but the climate is perfect to enjoy walks on the beach, trips through the many creeks of the ACE Basin, and the weekend art shows and home tours. Summer months obviously bring the sun, surf, sand, and water activities.

As the seasonal visitors depart and Autumn rolls in many long time property owners take advantage of the down time as the weather permits swimming, boating, and fishing until late in the season.
Finally, many find the Winter months to be a favorite time to enjoy Edisto. With less than a thousand full time residents, the Winter months are perfect for a relaxing retreat to listen to the waves on the shore and watch the season change.
